The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has added a hockey icon as an honorary ambassador for their fundraising campaign.
Former NHLer Paul Henderson, who was born in Kincardine and also lived in Lucknow, will champion the campaign to modernize the Kincardine Hospital’s emergency department, medical imaging unit, and laboratory. The updates will also bring Bruce County’s first MRI machine.
As a part of his ambassadorship, Henderson will help launch The Paul and Eleanor Henderson Quiet & Comfort Lounge, with a goal of raising $100,000 to name the space in the redeveloped emergency department.
The space will offer comfort, privacy, and connection during vulnerable moments.
In a media release from the hospital foundation, Henderson said, “Growing up in a rural community like ours, you learn early on the value of looking out for one another,” said Henderson. “This hospital has always been there for our families—and now it’s our turn to be there for it. I’m honoured to lend my voice to a campaign that’s about care, dignity, and building something lasting for future generations. Together, we can score big for health care.”
The Kincardine Hospital Fundraiser recently surpassed $12 million mark of its $18 million goal.
Henderson spent 13 years playing in the National Hockey League, spending time with the Detroit Red Wings, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Atlanta Flames. He’s also best known for scoring the winning goal at the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union.
“We are deeply grateful to Paul for lending his name and heart to this campaign,” said Foundation President, Becky Fair. “His legacy of leadership and compassion mirrors the very values we hope to build into every corner of our new hospital. With Paul on our team, we will drive hard and score the $18 million goal that makes this hospital expansion a reality.”
