West Grey is moving ahead in its process to sell land to Grey County for a new paramedic station in Durham.
Council approved declaring a 0.73-acre piece of land on 451 Durham Road West surplus and to take the next steps in the land sale process during a meeting on Feb. 6.
This comes after the county had expressed interest in buying land for the development and construction of a paramedic base last month during a Committee of the Whole meeting.
This roughly $3 million project would be based off the paramedic base in Craigleith, allowing for administrative offices, four parking bays, medical equipment storage, a decontamination and cleaning area, and better lockers and showers.
The piece of land the county is looking to purchase is also part of the 8.45-acre property West Grey bought in early 2020 to build the new West Grey Police station.
A report from Director of Legislative Services and Clerk Jamie Eckenswiller says staff have asked their engineering consultant to prepare a concept plan showing the potential location for the new paramedic base in proximity to the new police station and make sure both buildings could exist on the lands.
“Grey County has indicated that this property is an ideal location for the new paramedic base as it provides direct access to Grey Road 4 to quickly respond to emergency calls and is located near the hospital in Durham,” says the report.
