Grey County will look at buying land for a new paramedic station in Durham.
A staff report is set to be discussed at Thursday’s Committee of the Whole Meeting that recommends the County consider buying a portion of land next to the site of the planned new West Grey police station at Grey road 4 and Chester Street.
County staff say the location is ideal because it has quick access to Grey Road 4, and is near the hospital.
Staff note, they had previously explored the possibility of a new station by the redeveloped Rockwood Terrace, but note, site plan modifications make that no longer an option and the County is hopping to use land near Rockwood Terrace for affordable or attainable housing.
The roughly $3 million project is part of Grey County’s ten-year capital plan.
A new site, according to staff would be modeled after the County’s Craigleith site and would allow for administrative offices, four parking bays, medical equipment storage, a decontamination and cleaning area, and better lockers and showers.
Staff say the current base in Durham is from the mid 1980s and has garage area ventilation issues that affect heat, mold and temperature control.
The Municipality of West Grey owns the land the County is considering, and County staff say its value and the price the County would offer would be discussed in closed session.
