Georgian Bluffs council is going to be receiving a report this month on a proposed Rogers cell tower near Cobble Beach.
The report by FB Connect, which was retained by Rogers, will be brought to council at its committee of the whole meeting on Aug. 24 with details surrounding the proposal.
It would see the construction of a new free standing 50 metre tower along Grey Road 1 near Cobble Beach. The tower would support enhanced wireless voice and data coverage and capacity for the Cobble Beach and Owen Sound area.
The report says the proposed installation provides an opportunity to accommodate future technologies as well as potential co-location with other licensed carriers, limiting the number of new towers needed in the area.
As part of the proposal, Rogers will be required to undergo a municipal and community consultation process.
“As communities continue to grow to depend on wireless products and their services, it will be necessary to improve network coverage and quality. Improving network coverage and quality is achieved by increasing mobile base station infrastructure to fill coverage gaps and increase capacity for current and future wireless users,” says the report.
Three years ago, Rogers abandoned a plan to put up a new tower near Owen Sound’s west waterfront after concerns were raised by some residents.
