It’s a big day in Hanover — the new Canada Post building is now open for business.
A children’s choir, dignitaries as well as the ever so appropriate stamp coil cutting ceremony all helped mark the grand opening of the new Post Office.
The day comes as a victory for the town of Hanover and it’s residents who fought hard to keep the post office in the downtown core.
Mayor Kathi Maskell is glad Canada Post came to the table and worked out a settlement after initially wanting to move the new office out of the downtown core.
She calls the new location, in the former LCBO building — a perfect fit.
Canada Post Local Supervisor Denise Hutchinson says her staff of 20 love the new building.
She calls it bigger, brighter, more accessible with a better lay out plan and it also offers more parking.
Canada Post Communication Officer Tom Creech says Hanover residents are passionate about their post office.
He says the huge public outcry about their earlier plans just confirms the important role the post office continues to play in Canada.
As for residents that attended Friday’s ceremony — they also seem pleased with the new building and location.
Like their previous home, Canada Post is leasing their new building.
