The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has issued a class order to enforce Covid-19 self-isolation requirements.
As of today, the order allows the health unit to enforce existing self-isolation requirements for all individuals who have been advised to do so in a quick and efficient manner.
This includes anyone diagnosed with COVID-19, someone who has symptoms, someone who has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting the results of their test.
It also applies to someone who has been identified as a close contact of a person with Covid-19.
The health unit says people who fail to comply with the order may be liable for a fine of up to $5,000 for every day or part of each day they are not self-isolating.
Medical Officer Of Health, Dr. Charles Gardner says the order has been brought in because there have been enough incidents of non-compliance of isolation rules to warrant it.
Gardner adds that the order can only be enforced by the health unit.
On another note, Gardner says the health unit has been having trouble keeping up with the all the contacts of a person with Covid-19. He asks for you to follow-up with your own contacts and says the health unit will rely as well on school boards to notify contacts.
