An online fundraiser has been created to help cover the veterinary costs for a dog shot by police in Wasaga Beach.
Police say the dog was shot on Friday, after a fire broke out at a home on River Road East (near Beck) and its owner “released a dog he reported to be trained to attack at the responders.”
A 57 year old man is now facing charges and a future court date, while the dog is recovering at the 404 Emergency Vet Clinic.
The fundraiser was set up by Jenni Rose, a neighbour of the man, who says she rushed the beloved local dog to an emergency veterinary clinic, following the incident.
She wrote, “On September 18, his masters house caught fire. During the chaos of fire trucks and police men. His owner Peter and Charlie were extremely distraught and confused by their burning house and all the commotion. Charlie got loose from his owner, and during that chaos, CHARLIE WAS SHOT THREE TIMES BY A POLICE OFFICER IN WASAGA BEACH, ONTARIO. Once in his front left paw, which is a through and through; Once in the back right paw, bullet remains lodged; and a through and through to his chest.”
In an update on the dog’s condition, Jenni said, “He is stable and in ICU at the 404 Emergency Veterinary Clinic, who have gone above and beyond with their generosity on covering the initial charges and billing towards Charlie’s recovery.”
The campaign aims to raise $5,000 for Charlie’s ongoing recovery and for more details, please click here.
His owner is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on November 24, 2020, to answer to charges of
– Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm;
– Assault a peace officer with a weapon; and
– Mischief.
