The town of Wasaga Beach is clarifying a proposed new indemnification policy.
This updates a policy first adopted in 2006.
It protects members of council, employees and board members from gaps in the town’s insurance program.
A section has been added to deal with defamation.
Council says it has noticed over the past few years and increasing over the past 14 months lies and false statements being published or stated about individual members of Council, staff and members of local Boards.
A town news release says the only way to deal with these lies or false statements was for individuals topursue relief on their own including legal proceedings.
It was felt that Council needed to put in place a policy so that a covered individual could take steps to protect their personal reputation.
