Premier Doug Ford says the second wave of Covid-19 is coming for Ontario and every option – including further shutdowns – is on the table.
Today the Province reported 313 new Covid-19 cases.
Ford says how bad the second wave will be depends upon the public and what we can achieve when we work together.
“(And) the second wave of Covid-19 – it’s a scenario that we have been preparing for all summer long,” said the Premier. “And today, we are in much better shape when it comes to testing – we have dozens of companies in Ontario manufacturing PPE. We have invested billions of dollars to expand capacity in our healthcare system.”
Ford says social gatherings are the main concern and he urges people to cut them out. Any future shutdowns, he says, will be looked at on a regional basis.
Ford says a combo of case counts and hospitalizations will help determine whether a region will have to return to Stage 2. Health Minister Christine Elliott echoed this and added that it also hinges on seeing a consistent trend moving forward.
Ford says further plans will be rolled out to keep Ontario safer this fall in the coming days.
The Premier says we will hit some bumps, but that we are ready for it.
