Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
I’m not about to speak positively, or in glowing terms, about COVID 19.
Frankly, it’s been a disaster on every level and I fear that the negative impact will be far reaching into our future.
If I had to dig for the silver lining in the last 6 months, it would be this; I’ve played a lot more golf this year.
And maybe not surprisingly based on the frequency of rounds, I’ve played a little better golf this year.
The next big golf outing will be Friday at Legacy Ridge when the 29th annual ” Swing Your Sticks for Charity ” Tournament will be staged.
Like any long running event, there have been changes through the years.
The location has gravitated from the original site at Scenic City Course to Stone Tree Golf & Fitness to its current home at Legacy Ridge.
Getting back to COVID, there will be other alterations this year.
” Swing Your Sticks ” won’t be a tournament as much as a fundraising Golf Day.
Plus, rather than a shotgun start, there are designated tee times to keep us safe, secure and healthy.
Otherwise, it appears the field will be full of players again and it appears the level of support and sponsorship remains at a very high level.
” Swing Your Sticks ” does have long lasting designated charities; the Grey Bruce Paraplegic Association, REACH and G.R.A.C.E.
But beyond that, they also have funds that are channelled through the Community Foundation Grey-Bruce and in the event of an emergency or a special need scenario in the community, quietly funds have been made available for immediate assistance.
COVID 19 may have altered ” Swing Your Sticks ” but it hasn’t halted the event or changed the mission.
I’m Fred Wallace
