The regional unemployment rate in the area that includes Grey and Bruce counties rose slightly in August.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the jobless rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region increased by 0.1 percentage points to 8.7 per cent last month.
The regional economy shaved more than 3,400 jobs, 2,000 of those being full-time positions.
According to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the construction (-2,600) and business, building and support services sectors (-1,500) led the job losses.
The agriculture (+400) and health care/social assistance (+1,300) industries led the region’s net job gains in August.
The Labour Market Planning Board notes its regional job website — connect2jobs.ca — aggregated more than 1,500 postings from the area.
“There are many opportunities available in the region as demonstrated by the jobs aggregator so employers are looking for workers,” says Four County Labour Market Planning Board Executive Director Gemma Mendez-Smith. “This could point to recovery for some sectors in our region.”
