More pot shops are on the way!
Ontario’s cannabis store regulator (AGCO) says it will double the number of shops it authorizes this fall.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario says it has issued 164 approvals to date and 150 stores are currently open.
The AGCO will soon contact all affected retail store applicants directly to advise them of any change to the timing of the issuance of their store authorizations.
Among the applications for new cannabis retail stores include:
- 170 Jozo Blvd in Blue Mountain,
- 173-1 Mill Street in Angus,
- 627 Cundles Road East (Unit 11) in Barrie
- and 351 Talisman Drive in Gravenhurst
They have all entered the 15-day public notice phase.
That means residents in the area have just over two weeks to make written submissions as to why the proposed store is not in the public interest as set out in the regulation made under the Cannabis Licence Act, 2018.
They include:
Protecting public health and safety
Protecting youth and restricting their access to cannabis
Preventing illicit activities in relation to cannabis.
