During the void created by the coronavirus, the Owen Sound Attack conducted a Twitter campaign connected to Bearadio on 560 CFOS.
They took 32 audio clips essentially from the past 15 years and placed them into a bracket format and asked their fans and followers to select the best of the best in a head-to-head showdown.
When the smoke cleared, Kaleb Pearson’s last second overtime goal at Windsor on March 5, 2020 was declared the People’s Choice.
Since Bearadio on CFOS is exclusively road games, what I found somewhat telling was the number of arenas that were represented by significant Attack goals scored.
Naturally, the Midwest Division had the most candidates so there were ample examples from Erie, Guelph, Kitchener & London.
Because in later years, Sault Ste Marie has been almost a perpetual playoff opponent, there were a number of clips that came against the Greyhounds, including an Owen Sound loss in what currently is the 3rd longest game in franchise history.
Along with Windsor and the Soo, two other West Division teams; Sarnia & Saginaw factored in key calls.
Plus there was a handful of Eastern Conference locations featured as well, most notably Mississauga, a.k.a. ” The Bayshore South ” from the 2011 Ontario Hockey League Championship Series which produced the greatest Bearadio clip of all time; the Jarrod Maidens overtime winner in Game 7 to give the Attack the title.
I’m confident we’ll visit all those venues and see all those teams again, although I can’t say when, but the Best of Bearadio Showdown reminds us the Attack have had great moments in those locations through the years.
