I mentioned earlier in the summer how nice the main diamond at Duncan McLellan Park looked.
There were two factors;
One, it’s been a nice summer weatherwise, but the rain days have been lengthy and generous with the amount of natural water falling on the outfield.
And two…the ball fields in Owen Sound and throughout the region haven’t had nearly the amount of use they get in a normal season.
That applies to the ball diamonds at Tara and Allenford, although those two venues will be quite active this weekend.
The 2020 Ontario Amateur Softball Association Under 14 Tournaments will be hosted in those communities Saturday and Sunday.
In total, 8 teams will be competing, 4 each in the two locations, as a bubble model is being utilized to prevent excessive crossover.
From a local standpoint,, two of the 8 clubs competing will be representing Tara Minor Ball.
At Tara, the MacDonnell Fuels Twins will compete against Drumbo, the Elmira Heat and the New Hamburg Majors.
Meanwhile in Allenford, the Nickason Construction Twins will battle with the Baden Wilmot Minors, the St George Spartans and the Durham Chiefs.
Play starts Saturday morning at 9 am at both ball parks and runs through the respective Championship games Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm
It’s nice to see fastball, even from a belated standpoint, back on the diamonds in our region.
