Human traffickers in Ontario are being put on notice.
Today Premier Doug Ford told criminals involved in the trafficking rings that the justice system is coming for them.
The Province is pledging $7.65 million over 5 years to help sex trafficking victims and survivors.
Associate Minister of Children and Women’s Issues Jill Dunlop says it’s about building a bridge for victims into the future.
“Today’s announcement is about ensuring those who have been trafficked get the best care to heal,” she said. “We want to support them with trauma-informed services so they can move forward into new lives.”
Ford says the average age for sex trafficking victims is just 13 years old.
The Province will be providing a further update in the fall on the progress they’ve made squashing human trafficking networks.
Ford also wants bail reform to ensure sex traffickers don’t go free on bail.
We’re helping young women and children escape a living nightmare and rebuild their lives by announcing new funding to cover essential expenses.
We will continue to work with the police to put criminals responsible for this disgusting crime behind bars. https://t.co/bRDcVVbeoq pic.twitter.com/ZOzlzBPyek
