The Conservative MP for Huron-Bruce says the party’s leadership election of Erin O’Toole demonstrates the growing enthusiasm of party members across Canada.
O’Toole outpaced three other candidates in three rounds of voting, despite falling short in the number of votes cast in the first and second ballots.
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb says 174 thousand members of the Conservative Party of Canada voted for the new leader, more than any party leadership vote in the country’s history.
In February, Lobb put his support behind Peter MacKay to be the CPC’s next leader, but says all members are unified under the newly elected O’Toole.
“Erin is going to provide the credible option to Canada… and offer Canadians a vision, and the vision will be on jobs and the economy, and cleaning up some of the corruption we’ve seen the Trudeau government under in the last number of months.”
O’Toole replaces former leader Andrew Scheer, and will head the Conservatives well parliament resumes September 23rd.
