Is Ontario’s government prioritizing a full day of school over smaller class sizes?
Premier Doug Ford says no.
Today he and Education Minister Stephen Lecce indicated they both believe a 1-metre separation between students can be maintained with the right elementary class-size plans.
Lecce says he wants to keep classroom sizes low too, but he says everyone, including the teacher’s unions, should be part of the solution.
The minister adds that the government is also trying to limit points of contact for supply teachers heading into September.
“Our guidance already says to school boards that those supply/vocational teachers really need to be to the extent humanly possible focused on one school or a small limit of schools for that supply,” said Lecce.
He adds that the government has allocated money for professional development and training for health and safety for all teachers, including occasional and supply teachers.
This will help ensure that every educator will know what to do under any circumstance and if Covid-19 symptoms should arise.
Incredibly impressed by the can-do spirit at Viola Desmond PS in #Ajax, as staff work hard for a safe return to school.
