The Bluewater District School Board is sharing more details of its plans for the reopening of schools next month.
The board has launched a question and answer page on its website to assist parents and guardians in understanding the many health and safety protocols being implemented in September. It provides details on a broad range of questions about the impact on school operations and program instruction given the new policies.
In a statement, the Bluewater Board says it will be a “living document” with ongoing updates as more planning details emerge.
Grey Bruce's public school board will follow a conventional full return model with enhanced public health protocols at its elementary and secondary schools, as directed by the Ministry of Education.
Students are back in the classroom on the usual date, one day after Labour Day — Sept. 8, 2020.
Parents or guardians who chose to not send their children back to school at this time, can select a remote learning option.
“As we prepare for the return to learning in September, our priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We have involved our local Public Health Unit as part of our planning, while also following the directions of the Ministry of Education to ensure that our schools and workplaces are prepared, and our students and staff experience a successful return,” says Bluewater Board Director of Education Lori Wilder in a statement.
Parents and guardians this year are also required to pre-register their children for the fall term, even if students previously registered to attend a school in the Bluewater District Board.
A statement from the board explains all students, new and current, must be registered on or before Aug. 19, 2020 to ensure they are able to start on the first day of school.
Those who plan to keep their kids at home at the beginning of the school year also need to fill out the pre-registration survey, to select the remote learning option.
