Saugeen Shores Police have charged a man after he allegedly tried to resist arrest and assaulted an officer.
Police say they were called at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon to investigate a man who was suspected of doing drugs in a public park in Southampton.
Officers say they arrived at the park and found the man who is known to police and wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant, passed out on a bench.
They say when they woke him up, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Officers immediately arrested him and say a pat down search revealed a quantity of suspected purple fentanyl.
According to police, he tried to pull away from them and that's when they noticed a large flip knife in his waist band.
He reportedly began to fight the officers. During the struggle one of the officers was assaulted and sustained an injury. Eventually the man was restrained on the ground and cuffed.
Police say they seized:
Six baggies of suspected purple fentanyl
14 bottles of methadone
Two knives
Loaded needles with suspected fentanyl
A 34 year old man of no fixed address faces charges related to drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, Assault with intent to resist arrest, Breaching Probation, and breaching a release order not to posses a weapon.
He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
