OPP in the Chatsworth area have numbers from a focused patrol initiative on road safety and speeding in the Village of Berkeley in Chatsworth.
Police note Highway 10 travels through the community and there is an 80 kilometre per hour (km/h) speed limit on both sides of the village, with a reduced 50 km/h speed limit within the village limits.
Grey Bruce OPP say they have received several complaints from local residents, advising that numerous motorists speed through the village and often travel through at highway speeds.
Police say there are obvious concerns for children playing in the area, as well as pedestrians walking, cyclists and other road users.
They say there is also a multi-use trail (former rail line) that passes through the village, which offers access to walkers, hikers, bikers, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobile users.
Police say they spent several hours on the traffic initiative and ticketed people with 38 Provincial Offence Notices
– Charged one person with stunt driving (50km/h over the limit)
– One suspended driver charged
– One driver charged under the Cannabis Control Act
– 17 warnings were issued to drivers
