An Owen Sound man faces numerous charges after allegedly waving around what turned out to be an imitation firearm and then trying to dispose of it as police officers approached.
Owen Sound Police say on Wednesday afternoon a citizen reported observing a man brandishing a handgun and concealing it in his waistband near the west side harbour.
Police say as officers arrived and confronted the suspect, he tossed the firearm in the bay near the grain elevators.
City Police say an officer observed the general location it was thrown, and entered the water to quickly retrieve it from the bottom of the bay in about 10 feet of water along the west side of the pier.
Police say the 24-year-old male suspect from Owen Sound was bound by a court-imposed condition not to possess weapons. The accused was arrested on multiple charges including possession of an imitation firearm for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was remanded into custody.
