Today is the last day of beardedness for a number of local politicians.
On Saturday, a group of them will shave off the beards they've been growing since March as a way to raise money for a local cause during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The money will go to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation's COVID-19 Critical Response Fund to pay for Personal Protective Equipment for health workers.
You're being encouraged to pick the politician whose beard you want to see disappear the most and make a donation to their portion of the cause.
In the interest of physical distancing and not drawing a crowd of spectators, the event will be live-streamed at 10 a.m. Saturday on the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation's Facebook page.
You can donate in support of any of the following men:
MP Alex Ruff
MPP Bill Walker
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy
Owen Sound Councillor Travis Dodd
Owen Sound Councillor Richard Thomas
Owen Sound Councillor Scott Greig
Southgate Mayor John Woodbury
Hanover Deputy Mayor Selwyn Hicks
Grey Highlands Deputy Mayor Aakash Desai
Mayor Ian Boddy says Councillor Travis Dodd is leading in terms of fundraising dollars at around $1,000
They hope to raise a few thousand dollars for the COVID-19 Critical Response Fund.
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy, who came up with the initial idea says he's getting a little tired of having a beard and will be happy to see it go. On Twitter, Boddy has been showcasing some various beard styles he played around with a few years ago on twitter but he thinks he'd rather get rid of it completely, “It's July, I am taking it all off. It's all gotta go.”
