A community group in Owen Sound has started work on a new welcoming garden at the hospital.
The volunteer group, Neighbourwoods North, are working on an island garden which will be located at the main entrance of the Owen Sound Regional Hospital and be a focal point for thousands of patients, visitors and staff who attend the facility annually.
The project is completely community-led, funded by donations to Neighbourwoods North and donations of plants from a number of local garden centres and individuals.
“A special thanks to Neighbourwoods North, and to Adam MacDonnell from MacDonnell Excavating for donating his crew, his time and heavy equipment to start this project,” a statement from Grey Bruce Health Services says.
According to a release from Grey Bruce Health Services, an excavator arrived Thursday to prepare the soils for the planting of 20-foot ornamental pear trees. Neighbourwoods North are spending the weekend planting perennials, tall grasses and flowers. In the fall, the volunteer group will finish out the new welcoming garden with deciduous and evergreen shrubs.
