A 63-year-old Hepworth man has been charged after allegedly diverting social assistance income from his brother's bank account into his own pocket.
Owen Sound Police say bank records and witnesses statements confirmed the accused, who was designated Power of Attorney for his brother, was in fact stealing money that was intended to be used to pay for his brother's rent at an Owen Sound care facility.
Police allege the accused stole nearly $40,000 over a four-year period dating back to mid-2016.
The accused, who has not been identified by police, faces charges of breach of trust, theft by power of attorney and theft over $5,000.
