You won't be seeing any mobile food trucks in Sauble Beach this summer.
South Bruce Peninsula council has decided to not permit the handful of trucks that would have operated throughout the municipality this year.
Mayor Janice Jackson says, “We did that specifically for the COVID crisis and to help our current businesses through.”
Businesses have been facing many challenges over the course of the pandemic, including shut downs and reduced business while mortgages and rents often still need to be paid.
Jackson says the absence of food trucks is just for 2020, “Just to make this gesture in support of our business community, that's what council decided to do.”
She adds, “We'll be up and running next summer with food trucks.”
It should be noted, the Casero double decker taco bus on Sauble's Main Street is not actually mobile and therefore is not considered a mobile food truck.
Jackson notes in a regular year, council has embraced the idea of food trucks, “We don't believe having food trucks is going to harm our current businesses because there's so much business to go around, tons and tons. We have so many people and not enough food offerings. “
