Owen Sound has cancelled Harbourfest and Canada Day because of COVID-19, but council hopes to at least set off some fireworks sometime this year.
The two big events are the latest in a series of celebrations to be cancelled in the City.
Mayor Ian Boddy says they'd like to someday host an event where people can spread out safely because it's also a milestone year for the City.
Boddy says it's the 100th anniversary of Owen Sound incorporating, but at some point the City wants to simply be able to liven people's spirits.
The City is still looking at whether or not it can hold its outdoor movie nights and harbour nights, as they have a better chance of allowing for physical distancing.
“We'll have a report back on the movie night and the harbour concert series on Sunday nights looking at different ways…even a drive-in type situation even where people can remain safe and spread out. So we're just looking for different option on that.”
Other City organized events cancelled this year include Doors Open, Riverside Reunion and the Home and Cottage Expo.
