Since launching the Emergency Response Benefit to help those affected financially from the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government is making adjustments to help more people.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today in his daily statement, that they have changed the rules to be more flexible.
Businesses will now have to show a decline of 15 percent, instead of the previous 30 percent in their revenue for the month of March for to demonstrate how they are impacted by the pandemic.
Charities and non-profits will have a choice to include or exclude the government subsidy when calculating their loss of revenue.
If their business is affected by COVID-19, they will get $847 a week in a government subsidy for each employee, retroactive to March 15th.
For those not eligible for the CERB, Trudeau says they are currently working on solutions, but want those people to know that the federal government is going to help the most vulnerable.
The Prime Minister pointed out, unemployment figures for Canada are coming out tomorrow, for the month of March and they are expected to be grim.
The Canada Summer Job program for students will change, those employers will get 100% subsidy to cover the cost of hiring students.
Trudeau says cabinet members are meeting this afternoon to pass legislation to get more help for Canadians faster.
