A 38 year old man faces a list of charges after a rampage with a backhoe had police from five detachments on a chase in West Grey.
Police say just before 10 Sunday night (April 5th) they were called to the Heritage Centre Variety Store in Durham after it was reported a backhoe had just struck the building and left the scene.
Police say when they arrived, they found the front bay window was completely smashed out and there was also damage to the inside. They say they were told the tractor was headed west on Durham Road towards Grey Road 4.
Police went after the vehicle in a pursuit that involved West Grey police, Hanover police and officers from three OPP detachments.
They say the pursuit went on for over an hour and a half and covered several roads in West Grey.
They say the tractor nearly hit police cruisers numerous times and damaged a number of properties.
Police say the chase ended when the suspect drove the tractor into a field and then ran off and hid.
Officers reportedly found the man hiding in the field and arrested him after a struggle.
A 38 year old man faces a list of charges including flight from police, assaulting an officer, break and enter, assault with a weapon, driving while disqualified and possession of stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing.
