Although there are currently no confirmed cases of Coronavirus at Bruce Power the site is actively planning for various contingencies.
Director of Corporate Communications for Bruce Power – John Peevers, says staff is closely following the fluid situation.
“We have instituted some site access restrictions around visitors …only people who have urgent business we're allowing on site,” says Peevers.
Bruce Power has also put travel restrictions in place and is only allowing business travel within Ontario and only if it's “absolutely necessary”.
Peever says the site is ready with potential procedures incase of a staff shortage due to illness, with its main focus continuing to be on safety and providing power to the Province.
“Ontario is counting on us to do that,” he adds.
“We've done things like stepping up cleaning, encouraging things that our Public Health experts are encouraging, washing hands, social distancing… all those things were instituting and following.”
Peevers says the organisation also sympathise with the situation parents and families are facing due to the mandatory publicly funded school closures in Ontario until April 5.
“Like parents all across Ontario families are going to have to come with contingencies to deal with that.”
Although Bruce Power has a few employees who have self-quarantined as a precaution, Peevers is confident the workforce will “get through this”, adding “being prepared and planning is our best weapon.”
On Wednesday (March 11) Bruce Power preemptively closed (temperarilty) it's Visitors Centre due to Coronavirus concerns.
The Nuclear site was set to host a slew of March Break activities, expecting up to 1,500 visitors from a wide geographic area, including outside of the region, and believe out of an abundance of caution the right thing to do is to cancel those activities.
