It only happens every two years — Hanover is getting ready to add a few more names to its Labyrinth of Distinction.
It’s Hanover’s walk of fame and this is an induction year.
The Town is accepting nominations for the Labyrinth of Distinction which honours excellence and achievement.
There are two categories: Community Builder as well as Personal Achievement and Accomplishment.
Hanover’s Labyrinth of Distinction is located in Heritage Square.
Every two years, two new names are engraved in the paver stones to provide a legacy for each individual’s achievement or contribution.
Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Sherri Walden encourages the community to consider potential inductees and submit a nomination form with background information.
She says recognition as an inductee is a highly regarded honour, as it acknowledges exemplary accomplishments and contributions.
Walden says the intent of Labyrinth of Distinction is to ensure persons of Hanover heritage, having earned distinction bestowing pride and hour on the Hanover community and themselves, are permanently recognized and immortalized for the knowledge and understanding of future generations.
Inductees have included individuals as well as groups such as: Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame Musicians The Mercey Brothers, artist Audrey Holrod, Canadian and World Champions Don Caughy, Ryan Bester, Shalyn Sulkye and Patrick Switzer as Hanover’s founder Abraham Buck to name a few.
The Labyrinth of Distinction was unveiled on July 1st, 2003 and contains 45 paver stones recognizing accomplishments and achievements dating all the way back to 1849.
Nomination details and forms are available at the P&H Centre, the Hanover Municipal Office and online.
The deadline for nominations is March 31st and on July 1st two new names will be added to the paver stones in Heritage Squares Labyrinth of Distinction.
