The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) says it's escalating its response to COVID-19.
Health Officials say there are no known cases in Grey Bruce, but they recognize local cases may happen at some point.
In light of this, the Health Unit says the community is now in what's called a “Containment Phase,” goal of which, is to contain and eliminate the spread of the virus.
Public Health says if that doesn't work it would move to “Mitigation and Response Phase” responding to infectious diseases and outbreaks in our community.
They say so far there have been 20 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) identified in Ontario.
All of the cases are linked to travel to affected countries or a known case of COVID-19.
They stress there have not been any cases in the Grey Bruce region.
Meanwhile, in order to avoid these Public Health steps from being necessary, Public Health says its message is one of prevention.
The COVID-19 virus is most commonly spread through contaminated saliva, which comes from coughs, runny noses, etc.
Health officials say everyone should practice good basic hygiene as a preventative measure to protect against the novel coronavirus and other viruses in this cold and flu season.
-Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
– Sneeze and cough into your sleeve
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
– Avoid contact with people who are sick
– Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
– Stay home if you are sick
