A social media post by pop-music star Justin Bieber left Owen Sound buzzing Tuesday, after the 26-year-old took to Instagram with a photo showing himself in an Owen Sound Attack jersey alongside Attack assistant coach Joey Hishon.
In the post, Bieber wrote: “Owen Sound Attack, the best team in the world, no wait universe, actually no wait galaxy.”
The post has garnered over 1.3-million likes.
Why exactly did the Stratford-born pop star decide to endorse the Attack?
Attack assistant coach Joey Hishon also hails from Stratford. In addition to his coaching duties, Hishon runs a hockey skills training program. Bieber has been flying Hishon to Los Angeles to help him prepare for a breakaway challenge against St Louis Blues goaltender, and former Attack netminder, Jordan Binnington.
Back in January, Binnington challenged Bieber on social media to go one-on-one with him in 10 breakaways, after the pop star posted a clip of a goal he scored playing hockey.
Bieber accepted the challenge and put it to Binnington to donate $10,000 to a charity of his choice if he scores.
Meantime, the post quickly fuelled rumour in Owen Sound Bieber would be singing the national anthem at Saturday's home game against London.
While the Attack say “we'd love him at one of our games” the team debunked the idea Bieber would be in town Saturday in a post on their website, saying the pop star “is not singing the anthem at any of our upcoming home games” as far as they're aware.
