It was announced earlier this month that Douglas Point will be decommissioned and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) has been contracted for demolition work.
Canada's nuclear regulator, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced a hearing set for June 17-18, 2020 to amend the current licence to a decommissioning licence.
If granted, the licence would enable CNL to move towards decommissioning work.
However, further documents would still have to be submitted and subsequently approved by the CSNC in order for the planned decommissioning work to begin.
Douglas Point was Canada's first full scale nuclear plant which operated from 1967 to 1984.
For more information on the hearing and how to participate in the hearing please see the CNSC notice.
