The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario pulled all of their teachers out of class today, affecting some one-million students.
Striking teachers were at various locations in Grey and Bruce counties, including some in front of Walkerton District Community School.
Lots of signs carried by an estimated 60-teachers in Walkerton today and there was lots of support from passing motorists as well.
The President of the Bluewater Occasional Teachers group, Amanda Anderson, says they're fighting for the kids.
Anderson says, “We're standing up for students' learning conditions which are teachers' working conditions.”
Andrew Chittka is a part time/permanent primary grade French immersion teacher and despite the recent disruptions of classes, he believes the public will continue to support the teachers.
Chittka says people know it's the government that's holding up talks with their own agenda.
Teachers generally say all they want is a fair deal.
Walkerton District Community School is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 facility.
High school students remained in class on Thursday and elementary students will be back in class on Friday.
