For the second day in a row, some students in Grey Bruce are enjoying a day of school.
This time, it's english catholic school students who get a mid-week break while their teachers hit the picket lines.
All schools in the Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board are closed today.
Members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association can be found picketing at four locations across the region, including Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Kincardine and Walkerton.
Andy Hillyer, a St.Mary's High School English teacher, says he feels the impacts of not only the cuts but the job actions as a parent of two children in the catholic school system.
“There definitely is an impact because my children aren't in school today. But I do think that it's important that we stand up for our children and their education,” says Hillyer.
The OECTA is the second teachers union to strike this week. Public elementary school teachers picketed Monday. Another ETFO provice-wide walkout is planned for Thursday.
Teachers on the picket lines continue to state that cuts have negatively impacted class sizes. Mandatory e-learning is at the heart of their concerns as well. The Minister of Education Stephen Lecce maintains that the sticking point in negotiations is compensation.
