A Kincardine councillor has been reprimanded by council for his actions with a staff member last September.
In addition to the reprimand, Cuyler is now prohibited from entering private and public staff work-places and having any direct dealings with staff, unless arranged by the CAO.
Also his policy chair duties of bylaw and building are suspended until November 30th, 2020.
The move came in a 7-2 vote in favour of the motion.
Surprisingly, Cuyler voted in favour of the motion.
He says it was going to happen anyway so he figured, “Why not?”
The move came after Kincardine's Integrity Commissioner, Harold Elston, concluded Cuyler contravened several sections of the Code of Conduct, in his confrontation and challenge of a bylaw enforcement officer last September.
Cuyler says, “I've been very outspoken over the years and not just in politics. I've always had an opinion and a lot of people don't like my opinion.”
Cuyler, who can still take part in council meetings, feels his punishment may hinder his ability to do the work for which he was elected however, if that happens he'll talk to the CAO and Mayor to see what can be done.
It was councillors Bill Stewart and Randy Roppel who voted against the motion feeling the punishment should only extend to this September rather than November.
