Kincardine has become the latest Bruce County community to provide bins for film plastics.
The municipality hopes to start the program February 1st.
Public Works Director Adam Weischer, speaking to a Committee of the Whole meeting January 13th, says film plastic items include grocery bags, the wrappings around paper towels and toilet tissue, bread bags and milk bags just to name a few.
Weischer says a company called “Grey Bruce Trash Taxi” will pick up the material that will ultimately be recycled.
He pointed out that Kincardine is slightly off the firm's current routes but suggested it would cost the municipality up to $200 a pickup or about $10,000 a year.
Weischer says four yellow bins will be set up with two at the cardboard depot on Bruce Avenue and another two at the Waste Management Centre.
The containers have a circular hole cut into them where the film plastic items can be deposited by citizens.
There is no pickup of the material like the Blue Box program.
Councillors voted in favour of the program to start next month, assuming they get the bins in time.
The film plastics collection program is already in force in Brockton, Hanover, and Saugeen Shores
