Grey Bruce OPP charged nearly double the amount of impaired drivers on roads they patrol in 2019, compared to a year prior.
The troubling statistics come following the conclusion of the holiday enforcement period, when Grey Bruce OPP say they conducted 121 RIDE programs over five weeks that included Christmas and New Year's.
During the the recent holiday season on roads patrolled by Grey Bruce OPP, 15 drivers were charged with criminal offences, including impaired operation or refusing to provide a breath sample. Police say six drivers were served licence suspensions for registering a warning on a roadside screening device.
In all, Grey Bruce OPP say they charged 140 motorists with impaired driving in 2019. Police say that is an 81 per cent increase over the 77 drivers charged with the offence a year prior.
