South Bruce Peninsula council has said “thanks, but no thanks” to membership in the Municipal Innovation Council (M-I-C).
Bayshore Broadcasting News reporter John Divinski says council did leave the door open to join down the road.
At its December 17th meeting, council choose to opt out of the M-I-C, after being turned down for a one year membership.
Mayor Janice Jackson says the group wanted a commitment of 3-years and South Bruce Peninsula was not comfortable with that.
Mayor Jackson says a 3 year commitment would cost the municipality almost $100,000.
She says, “We're going to be revisiting it again (in the 2021 budget discussions) and that will give us a year to look at the accomplishments or lack thereof…”
Jackson says if they feel the M-I-C is going to benefit the municipality, then they will take part in the future.
The concept is to get together with other municipalities in partnership with the Nuclear Innovation Institute and the M-I-C to find efficiencies and ensure municipal services are sustainable.
