By not being committees of council, the groups don't have to follow council rules but they must apply for grants if they wish money from the municipality.
Member of the doctor recruitment group, Councillor Kathy Durst says her committee will still be supported by council although some committee members have questioned the optics of such a move.
They say it looks like the town is not interested in the health of its citizens.
Durst says “It is merely an issue of the highest and best use of our existing staff.”
She says the group doesn't need to be a committee of council to support their work.
Chair of the Heritage Committee, Councillor Terry Bell is disappointed with the move as well but they will carry on.
Staff time for the Heritage Committee cost $8,400 in 2019.
Staff and council time for the doctor recruitment committee cost just over $6,400 in 2019.
