Thanks to the generosity of the community, Owen Sound Police auxiliary members collected over 8,000 pounds of food for those in need this holiday season.
Police Chief Craig Ambrose says, “The Salvation Army was thrilled with the results.”
He notes about $5,000 in cash was also collected for the Salvation Army Food Bank.
Ambrose says the food drives make a difference, and calls it an, “Outstanding job by our members and our auxiliary, who often don't get enough recognition for the volunteer work that they do and the job that they do in the community and the outstanding results.”
Auxiliary police held food drives on three different weekends at Metro, Food Basics and Zehrs.
Our @OwenSoundPolice Auxiliary members were hard at work today at Food Basics during the Annual Food Drive in support of @salvationarmy. Next weekend we'll be at Zehrs. Come out and support a great cause! pic.twitter.com/w11QMnuy1L
