Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The Super Bowl was won Sunday night in Miami by the Kansas City Chiefs as they came from behind ( again ) to beat the San Francisco 49’ers 31-20.
The Chiefs certainly played with fire during the post season, forcing themselves to rally big time against Houston, then Tennessee & finally against San Francisco and the vaunted 49’ers defence.
Kansas City somehow found a way through the last month to overcome a 24-0 deficit in the 2nd round, a 17-7 deficit in the AFC Final and then in the Super Bowl erase a 20-10 deficit to win the NFL Championship.
The Chiefs weren’t the only weekend winners in sports
At the Ontario Men’s Tankard at Cornwall Civic Complex, the John Epping rink from Leaside defeated Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene to earn the right to represent Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston February 28th-March 8th
In the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, also at Cornwall, Rachel Homan out of Ottawa shaded Hollie Duncan of the Royal Canadian Club in the final
Homan will be the Ontario entry at the Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts February 15th-23rd at Moose Jaw Saskatchewan
Which brings us to tomorrow night at Chesley when the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League semifinals will be staged starting at 8 pm
On the High Side, Mike Hamer from Port Elgin faces upset winner Joey Rettinger of Tara while the Scott Davidson rink from Wiarton is in against Brett McAllister who will be curling on home turf.
The winners tomorrow night advance to the Brokerlink Final February 12th at Tara.
I’m Fred Wallace
