Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The biggest horse race in Grey County on an annual basis is Saturday night at Hanover Raceway.
The 2019 ” Dream of Glory Final ” will have a purse in the neighbourhood of $ 60,000 with a field of 8 trotters looking to add their name to the almost 20 year history of ” Dream of Glory ” winners.
In 2002, the inaugural ” Dream of Glory ” was won by ” Abbey Road C “, driven and trained by Keith Jones.
Seventeen years later, Jones is among the finalists again as the driver and trainer of ” Debt Collector ” who will have post position # 2.
Remarkably beside ” Debt Collector ” with post # 1 is ” Magical Journey ” driven by Stephen Byron and trained by John Bax.
Byron has driven the ” Dream of Glory ” winner 4 times and Bax has been the winning trainer 3 times.
Last year, ” Joey Bats ” won the ” Dream of Glory ” with driver Bruce Richardson.
Richardson, who is a fixture at Hanover Raceway, will try to repeat the victory this year with ” Knight Angel “.
And Robert Shepherd who drove ” Wild Wild Men ” to the ” Dream of Glory ” in 2016 has ” JumpShot ” in the final Saturday.
Drivers may be altered by post time, but Jones, Byron, Richardson and Shepherd will compete against 3 prominent names who would dearly love to win their first ” Dream of Glory “.
Scott Young, Paul McKenzie & Ryan Holliday are also scheduled to compete and of note, Holliday drove 2 horses to elimination victories last week.
Post Time Saturday for the opening race is 6:15 pm at Hanover Raceway with the highlight race being the 2019 ” Dream of Glory ” Final.
I’m Fred Wallace
