Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The Owen Sound Senior NorthStars are preparing for a pair of home games this weekend as the Ontario Lacrosse regular season is getting closer to a conclusion
The NorthStars have a home date Saturday night at 7 pm against the Six Nations Rivermen.
Aside from the challenge the Rivermen present, there’s a notable adjacent aspect to the contest as Caitlin Cobean’s Crusaders have been selling game tickets & 50 % of those tickets sold will go to the Crusaders cause
Keep in mind after the Saturday night game, Owen Sound is right back at it on Sunday afternoon at 4 when they host the Brooklin Merchants.
Still with a lacrosse, albeit field lacrosse, an exceptional number of players from our region have been selected for Provincial teams, National Championships and International competition.
Lauren Radbourne of Allenford will compete for Team Ontario Under 19.
Team Ontario U17 will include Kariya Beach of Owen Sound while Owen Sound’s Lyndsay Brooks is the head coach
In the Under 15 category, Team Ontario will include Kennedy Stauffer from Port Elgin, Taylor Chegahno from Wiarton/Purple Valley plus Kennedy Coghlin, Cameryn Gateman & Jillian Goldie from Owen Sound.
Finally, the Canadian Lacrosse Association roster for the 2018 World Championship in Israel includes Port Elgin native Ian MacKay who played NCAA at Vermont, and also competed in pro for Chesapeake.
Canada will be looking to defend the title they won at this event 4 years ago in Denver.
Indoors & out, here and far beyond, there’s plenty of lacrosse on the go.
I’m Fred Wallace
