Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Tomorrow night there’s an intriguing international softball doubleheader at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.
The Junior Selects will meet the touring National Under 19 team from New Zealand.
The New Zealanders are making their way through Ontario on their way to the World Under 19 Championship Tournament set for next month at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
The Selects come into the twin bill with a bit of momentum, having won the ISC Under 23 Tournament at Mitchell recently.
But this is a case of the unknown facing the unknown.
The Junior Selects are a touch older, while the New Zealand entry is a national collection of the best young players a softball gifted nation has at the moment.
After that, all Owen Sound knows about the New Zealand entry is what they’ve been able to cull from other centres who have played the visitors, and the consensus is New Zealand is deep; they can pitch, they can hit & they can run.
The doubleheader begins tomorrow night at 7 pm, hopefully starting with the traditional Haka ceremony by the New Zealanders prior to the opening contest at Duncan McLellan Park.
I’m Fred Wallace
