Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
If you need more proof that this is the transition season in local sports, look no further than the Western Ontario Athletic Association.
Tonight, the W.O.A.A. will conduct their 72nd annual General Meeting which includes their annual Minor Hockey Meeting and Softball Wrap Up Meeting.
As exemplified by the Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group’s Early Bird Tournament over the weekend, hockey season is underway while softball has concluded and looks to 2017
The meetings tonight will be staged at the WOAA Office at 49 Alfred Street West in Wingham beginning at 7:30 pm and will also include the announcement of the Mike Weichel Honour Award and the recipients of the WOAA Bursary Assistance Fund
The “Mike” Weichel Trophy is an award presented annually to recognize people in the broadcast region for outstanding efforts in promoting and maintaining minor sports.
Of note over the last decade, prominent names like Vince and Jane Mullin of Chepstow, Larry Lyman from Shallow Lake and the Keady Crawfords, Don & Vonnie, have all been deservedly spotlighted for the many activities they conduct to keep Minor Sports vibrant.
So tonight, the WOAA will host the 72nd AGM which will set the table for hockey and wrap the season for softball
I’m Fred Wallace
