Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The 29th annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular wrapped over the weekend and it’s hard to imagine the event having a better run of weather.
Sure, the conditions got rocky around Day 7 & 8, but overall, and especially for the climatic last two days of the event, the waters couldn’t have been more inviting for anglers.
The 2016 Salmon Spectacular attracted a lot of anglers; more than 3,800 were entered and they managed to enter almost 1,400 fish.
Among the encouraging numbers was the fact that the number of fish caught and entered were up from 2015 which speaks to both the health of the fishery, and quite likely to the conditions, both of which have to please the Sydenham Sportsmen Club who conduct the annual festival.
Tony Harnack of Annan and Brian McKibbon from Owen Sound were the divisional winners, Harnack taking home the Grand Prize for his 25.24 pound salmon while McKibbon scored the prize for the heaviest trout.
So with champions crowned, the focus in short order will turn to 2017 and the question that arises is, can the 30th annual Salmon Spectacular possibly be bigger and better than the derby just concluded ?
I’m Fred Wallace
