Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
A little trivia today;…. If you compiled a ” maximum break ” or a ” 1-4-7 “, what sport or activity would you be playing ?
…………A decent number of our listeners have quickly responded, ” snooker “, and they’re correct.
A maximum break takes place when a player sinks all 15 reds with 15 blacks and then follows by draining all 6 colours.
How do I know this ?
I didn’t….but I came across the information while searching for Cliff Thorburn, the Canadian Snooker star and World Champion from the early 80’s.
In 1983, Thorburn was the first player to ever make a maximum break at the World Championship.
And why was I searching Cliff Thorburn more than 3 decades after his World Championship ?
Simple. Cliff Thorburn will be in Owen Sound over the next few days.
An avid golfer, he’s due to play a course in our region on Sunday, and then as a ” thank you ” to those who orchestrated the golfing junket, he’s committed to putting on a snooker exhibition at Branch 6 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Owen Sound on Monday.
For the passionate snooker player, and for the curious, this is a remarkable opportunity to see a master play, and meet the master all at once.
The snooker session with Cliff Thorburn runs from 11 am to 2 pm Monday at the Legion in Owen Sound
I’m Fred Wallace
