Have you ever bought a sports jersey ? I’m sure the answer is a resounding ” yes ” for many in the audience.
In the 1970’s, I wanted a Denis Potvin Islanders # 5 jersey, so I saved my money and went to Garner’s Sports to buy it…..but somebody beat me to it. So with cash in hand, I changed gears and bought an Atlanta Flames jersey, the # 7 of Randy Manery.
Funny.
Through the years, I’ve bought other replica pro jerseys from various sports, but I can’t remember what the last one was…and I’m not sure I’ll be doing so in the future.
Not that I’d buy an NBA jersey, but the wheels are in motion for major alterations now that the Philadelphia 76ers will put a sponsorship logo on player uniforms, having worked out a deal with StubHub
The Stub Hub logo will appear on the 76’ers jersey beginning in 2017 which will mark the start of a three-year trial period.
Hockey. Baseball. Football. They’ll all follow suit, won’t they ?
And while I had reservations of forking out cash for Randy Manery’s sweater instead of Denis Potvin’s, there’s NO WAY I’m buying a jersey that promotes Stub Hub or anyone else in corporate North America.
