Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
When I was a kid, with more time on my hands, I could tell you the positions and typical batting orders for every Major League Baseball team.
Not only that, I could tell you where each team played, not just the city location, but the name of the ballpark.
In the mid 70’s prior to the Blue Jays arrival, the Montreal Expos operated out of Jarry Park.
In the old National League East, the Cubs played at Wrigley Field, the Mets at Shea Stadium, the Pirates were at Three Rivers Stadium and the Phillies were at Veteran’s Stadium
The oddity in the division, to a certain extent, were the St Louis Cardinals who played at Busch Stadium, a venue named for the beer made so famous by the family that owned the ball club.
Forty years later, I really have to think about who plays where;
Turner Field, the Great American Ball Park, Petco Park , AT&T Park, Coors Field, Chase Field, Safeco Field and…..well, on it goes.
This may be an aging thing, but I don’t have nearly the grasp on the players I once did and I wonder, did the incorporating of corporations into Major League Baseball diminish my overall interest in the game ?
I’m Fred Wallace
